Dreaming of the sea during Ireland's lockdown
I'm dreaming of the sea now that we are on Day 3 of the lockdown in Ireland due to the Covid-19 virus. We live in the midlands and are only allowed to travel 2 km from our home so the sea is a faraway memory at the moment. I took this photo in Arthurstown, which is a quiet village on the Wexford peninsula. If you look closely, you'll see a tall ship in the distance.
Hook Head links with Anglo Normans in 12th century Ireland
Arthurstown is about twenty minutes by car from Hook Head, one of the oldest lighthouses in the world. Medieval ships to modern day tankers and yachts were kept safe from the treacherous rocks by this 800 year old lighthouse. Hook Head was built by William Marshal who married Isabella the daughter of Strongbow (Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke) and Aoife, daughter of the King of Leinster in the Anglo Norman era in 12th century Ireland. Many of our most famous Norman keeps, tower houses and castles date from that period.
I hope you're all keeping safe. If you have photos of the sea, I'd love to see them.
